“Studies and Materials for the History of the Saltworks in Poland” – a scientific journal published by
Cracow Saltworks Museum in Wieliczka
“Studies and Materials for the History of the Saltworks in Poland” published systematically since 1965 (since 2017 in a Polish-English version), has a long tradition.
It is noteworthy that they provide the only platform in Poland for disseminating the achievements of researchers with a very narrow specialisation. The annual is an example of the only scientific journal in the country, and one of a few in the world, which is mainly devoted to the issue of saltworks, its history and its multifaceted association with culture – both spiritual and material.
“Studies...” are a specialist journal that publishes texts not only on the history of the Cracow Saltworks and the two mining towns (i.e. Wieliczka and Bochnia), but also presents archaeological and geological studies and specialised conservation studies of mining objects. The journal publishes the results of research by both the museum's own staff and authors from other research institutions, as well as synthetic and source studies relating to the broadly understood history of the saltworks industry in Poland. The published material is largely concerned with the Wieliczka and Bochnia mines – both UNESCO World Heritage Sites and showcases for the protection of our country's industrial heritage. The promotion of unique Polish objects in the pages of a widely read annual is extremely important in world expert circles, especially in the context of popularising the significant achievements of Polish heritage sites conservation. The articles are also supra-regional and multi-directional, achieved through long-standing cooperation with like-minded institutions at home and abroad.
Our annual can be found on the list of scientific journals and peer-reviewed proceedings of international conferences of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
